Steel rail works under extremely complex stress conditions. The state of rail directly affects driving safety. Rail performance mainly includes strength, plasticity, hardness, toughness and fatigue.
The requirements for steel rail use are very strict and some rail properties are contradictory, so comprehensive selection is required.
Rails should meet the following use requirements:
1. High strength and hardness to achieve high load-bearing capacity and long service life.
2. High safety and reliability against fatigue damage to prevent the inner peeling of the rail head and the transverse fracture of the rail that may be caused by it.
3. Strong resistance to uneven wear and uniform hardness over the entire length of the rail to avoid uneven wear such as corrugation and waves.
4. Good welding performance to enable seamless lines.
5. Good turnout machine processing performance to obtain good turnout quality.
6. Chemical composition facilitates heat treatment to improve the strength and toughness of the rail.
7. Strict dimensional tolerances and smoothness of the working edge of the rail to reduce periodic unevenness of the track.
